1- Senior Business Operations Associate
The University of Missouri Laboratory for Infectious Disease Research (LIDR) has an immediate opening for a Business Operations Associate, Senior. LIDR is one of 12 Regional Biocontainment Laboratories sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and constructed in the past decade to enhance our Nation’s capacity to conduct much needed research in the fields of biodefense and emerging infectious disease. LIDR is a stand-alone biocontainment facility which supports research at BSL3 and ABSL3. Additionally, LIDR houses several Core facilities which provide Aerosol Biology, Immunology, and small animal model development services to researchers.
The Business Operations Associate, Sr. position at the LIDR will be expected to support research programs in an administrative, fiscal, financial, and regulatory compliance capacity. The incumbent will assist in the administration of LIDR which includes overseeing expense and revenue accounts from many sources on and off campus, such as grants, contracts, core facilities and other recharge mechanisms. They will also assist in the establishment of new federal and non-federal projects and activities, including public relations and educational programs. The Sr. Business Operations Associate assists faculty in preparation and management of grants, and completion of federal and local reporting requirements related to LIDR grants and contracts. This individual will be the human resources representative for the facility, and may supervise administrative and fiscal assistants in the completion of their duties. In addition, they will manage the LIDR website, assist in the development of marketing strategies to ensure continued growth and success at LIDR, and assist with quality control and regulatory compliance as needed. The incumbent will be expected to develop relationships with government, academia and industry to facilitate funding opportunities for the Lab and its faculty. Duties may change according to programmatic needs and the incumbent must be able to rapidly adapt.

2- Sr. Research Specialist position at the University of Missouri Laboratory for Infectious Disease Research (LIDR)

LIDR is one of 12 Regional Biocontainment Laboratories sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and constructed in the past decade to enhance our Nation’s capacity to conduct much needed research in the fields of biodefense and emerging infectious disease. LIDR is a stand-alone biocontainment facility which supports research at BSL3 and ABSL3. Additionally, LIDR houses several Core facilities which provide Aerosol Biology, Immunology, and small animal model development services to researchers.
The Senior Research Specialist at the LIDR will be expected to support research at the University of Missouri through their involvement in the LIDR Core facilities. This requires operation of complex instruments including a Beckman Coulter MoFlo XDP flow activated cell sorter, fluorescent microscopes, and inhalation exposure equipment under supervision of the Core Director, as well as the operation of additional equipment which may be acquired at a later date. Responsibilities in small animal model development may include surgical procedures, health monitoring, and post-mortem analysis.
While it is not expected that the successful candidate will have prior experience in all aspects of the position, they must have demonstrated knowledge and motivation in learning similar complex tasks. The position also requires attention to detail necessary to work safely with high-consequence pathogens in a high-containment facility. Some work will require use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including a respirator. All work is to be done in strict compliance with University, state, and federal guidelines and regulations.
Additional Job Duties:
Assist Core facility users with experimental design, data analysis, and troubleshooting, and training.
Assist in technical experiments conducted in high-biocontainment laboratories for vaccine and therapeutics development and/or basic research. This includes working with and handling research laboratory animals.
Develop a comprehensive knowledge of BSL-2 and BSL-3 practices and Select Agent regulations.
Handle biohazardous samples at BSL-2 and BSL-3 using established protocols for all research procedures including safety, and use of PPE.
The Senior Research Specialist is expected to stay current in flow cytometry and aerobiology literature and participate in meetings and workshops.
Participate in all training as required by the University and LIDR biosafety officer (BSO).
Assist in annual recertification of LIDR and its Core facilities and other tasks as required.
Employment will be contingent on the individual’s ability to obtain and maintain authorization to work with select agents through a Federal Select Agent Program security risk assessment and meet personnel suitability requirements. The individual must also obtain the required medical clearances to work with animals and infectious agents. Additionally, acceptance of vaccinations and medical monitoring as required by the Occupational Health and Safety Program is a condition of employment.
Candidate will occasionally need to lift >25 lbs. or perform actions requiring similar physical strength and capability.
Individual must possess adequate computer literacy to learn common and specialized software including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Summit, FlowJo, Ponemah, as well as microscope image capture programs.
Exemplary approach to laboratory safety is a MUST.

Advanced degree in a related field of study. ALAT, LAT, or LATG certification. Experience in infectious diseases research with select agents at BSL-2/3 in an academic or industry setting. Previous experience operating FACS equipment and analyzing data.
